Recorder ensembles

At Wilkins, the students begin learning the recorder in Year 2 as part of our classroom music education program. Our school has two recorder ensembles where students can play the recorder together to build on what they have learnt in class and develop their music skills.

Recorder Ensemble

Students who have spent one year in Beginner Recorder can become members of our Recorder Ensemble and learn to perform pieces of music in parts using the full recorder family: bass; tenor; treble; descant; and sopranino. Students perform annually at the Opera House in the Festival of Instrumental Music, as well as at Wilkins Ensemble Showcase and at other school events.

Beginner Recorder

Student from Years 2 - 6 can learn to play pieces of music together on the descant recorder, with an emphasis on learning to read music and play together. Beginner Recorder perform at our Ensemble Showcase and other school events. Students from Beginner Recorder who have learnt their repertoire are able to perform at the Opera House in the Festival of Instrumental Music. Year 2 students can purchase recorders from the front office.
