Languages

In NSW primary schools, the study of a language is optional.

Language study allows students to develop communication skills, learn about languages as systems and explore the relationship between language and culture. Students engage with the linguistic and cultural diversity of societies and reflect on their understanding of social interactions.

Language study at Wilkins Public School

During their time at Wilkins, students are introduced to three languages:

  • Italian
  • Portuguese
  • Vietnamese.

Language instruction is dependent on what year a student is currently in. During our weekly, specialist-taught language classes students learn vocabulary, the rudiments of grammar and some of the culture of the language group being studied.
